Free Time

I actually have a little time on my hands today. Only because work is slow today. I should do some homework. There is really only enough time to do a little something. Homework is a big something. I let my students get into groups today. A little risk taking on my part. They were fabulous. It is very encouraging to know I can trust them to stay on task in that situation. There was a little bit of chatter, but for the most part the work was well accomplished. I have also learned it creates a comfortable way to access the ideas of other students in the class and that it creates a camaraderie in which the students can build a community. I have a lot of ELD students who enjoy group work as many cultures employ a sense of working for the group rather than the individual. I notice more schools basing their academic systems on a team or community based foundation. I highly approve. It provides a secure environment for the student and they seem to enjoy being a part of such structure.
I watched the movie Crash it was phenomenal. I only get to see films when they come out on DVD. It's hard to find the time to go to the actual cinema. I am just dying to see Corpse Bride (pun fully intended, yes, I know it's bad). It is however the truth.
Just got the new Dylan sound track. It is a must have for Dylan connoiseurs. Got the new Neil Young as well, the jury is still out on that one.
And great news for Gregory Maguirre fans, I found his new book Son of a Witch on sale at Costco. It continues the story of Oz through Elphaba's son ( from Wicked). I may wait for the paperback, but maybe not. Now I have to go to work. Be Mean!@
